Looking back in humour, love and more.

CAMINANDO CON ANTONIO MACHADO. José Sacristán selected the texts and performs in this show along with pianist Facundo Ramírez. Together, they bring the poetry of Seville-born Antonio Machado to life. With his singular voice, his stage presence and the cadence of the Machado’s language, Sacristán builds atmospheres and transmits powerful emotion through timeless, ever-current verses that speak of social criticism, Spain’s Civil War, orchards and the soul.
Remarkable in his delivery and subtlety, Sacristán moves his audience and makes them laugh at times. After travelling across the country, this show comes to a close with a free farewell performance tonight.
Where & when: Tonight at 9pm, Teatro Nacional Cervantes (Libertad 815). Free admission.
HAMLET X HAMLET. Adapted from William Shakespeare’s Hamlet. Performed and directed by Marcelo Savignone. In this one-man-show, Savignone offers a provocative take on the classic tragedy: an actor is rehearsing Hamlet on his spare time, but as rehearsals progress the barriers between reality and fiction are blurred for him. This actor will start a constant dialogue with his own ghosts and conflicts, until in the end his madness will mix with songs. The result is a gripping theatrical piece where the sole performer puts his varied, well-honed skills to good use, from clown to drama to musical theatre, all in the small dramatic space he chose and designed.
Where & when: Tomorrow at 9.30pm, part of the BA theatre festival Fiesta del Teatro. Belisario (Corrientes 1624, 4373-3465). Tickets: $20.
PUERTO SERENO. Written, directed and performed by Ana Izcovich. The notion of time is multifaceted for Freddy and Carmen, two characters who sit on their lounge chairs as theu watch lazy hours go by staring at the sea. The horizon, to their eyes, becomes a giant screen where their own lives are projected. Only the whispers from the hotel behind them bring them back to a reality that is at once disturbing and proof that they are not all alone.
Izcovich is joined on stage by Rafael Solano, Chendo Hortiguera and Alejandro Hener.
Where & when: Saturdays at 11pm. Tadrón (Niceto Vega 4802, 4777-7976). Tickets: $40 and $30.
YO Y MI SINGER. By Erika Halvorsen and Mirta Wons. An original offering that blends musical comedy, monologues, songs and dance to tell the story of a neighbourhood seamstress. As she sews, she remembers her romantic misadventures, her recurring depression, her existential crisis. Her practice in living with her memories turns her into a confidante for her customers, whom she will offer advice. She will even wind up falling in love with the owner of a haberdasher’s, as her fantasies rev up to the rhythm of her sewing machine’s pedal. With a remarbable performance by Mirta Wons.
Where & when: Fridays at 10.30pm. Teatro N/Artaza (Corrientes 1743, 154-495-4129). Tickets: $80 and $70.
