Not a single islander wants to be Argentine,' Malvinas gov't member
Dick Sawle, a member of the Malvinas Islands Legislative Assembly reconfirmed today on a TV interview to TN news channel the idea that Argentina is considered a "threat" because of its actions against the population of the Islands. Likewise, Sawle emphasized that ”there’s not a single islander who wants to be Argentine.”
Sawle also explained that the measures imposed by the Argentine Government in claiming sovereignty such as “restrictions on flights, controls on fishing, among others, are strong enough threats against the islanders.”
Likewise, the islander considered inexplicable how a country with 40 million inhabitants can threat a country with a population of 3,000."
Furthermore, Sawle complained that only Argentina "does not respect our right of self determination."
The Island’s Legislative Assembly member assured that the intention of the Islands’ Government's to “establish a dialogue with Argentina as we believe that the government of President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner will always follow peaceful means for discussion."
To end, Sawle remarked that “The islands administration is not dependent on the United Kingdom Britain."
